No rest for the wicked.
Zeke and I are having an eventful weekend. Friday afternoon he jumped up from a deep sleep and yelped in pain. This continued for the rest of the day at intervals of 10 to 30 minutes. After much poking, prodding, following him around, and begging him to point to what hurt him (he wouldn't) I deduced that it was probably arthritis pain. By then it was late at night, and I looked around online for a vet. We tried to go to sleep, but he got worse through the night, actually starting to scream at around 1:00. I worried that sleeping on the cold floor made things worse. He wasn't interested in the heating pad, but at 2am it dawned on me that I could turn the heat on in the house. (It's in the 50's every night here.) I don't know if it was the heat or just exhaustion, but he seemed to doze off for up to an hour at a time. At 3 am, he actually jumped up in bed with me and stayed for a while.
Jessica promptly woke us up at 7am for her breakfast. Nice. To make a long story short, I actually lucked out and found a great vet hospital in New Hartford (45 mins away). The vet on call looks like a slim Will Sasso. He was a great guy and loved Zeke. As I keep telling Zeke: "Everybody loves you." Am I right? The vet thinks it's arthritis of the spine and neck, which totally sucks, but it may be treatable or manageable. So we came home with some prednizone and we're going back for x-rays on Monday. Poor Mr. Sniff seems to be feeling a little better tonight.
In more fun news, I did manage to get out for a photo shoot today.
And a new friend arrived in the mail for Mango. This little elephant is named Neville Forget. Everyone say Hi to Neville!
That name just cracks me up and it's prompted me to bring home 4 of them. He's just so - What's that? What happened to the other three Nevilles? Well, let's not worry your pretty little heads about that. So Neville's had a nice long visit with Mango and I'm sure they're playing nicely together. Let's look in on them, shall we?
Oh my God!! Neville, are you alright??? OH! The horror! The HORROR!
Let's review the video footage and see if we can spot when this visit began to go horribly wrong. I'll warn you, this next picture is very graphic. It's not for the faint of heart. Seriously. Don't look.
Oh, I think I'm going to puke.
