Good Advice and Some Knitting

AuntEve in the comments asked for some zombie movie recommendations and, in the spirit of Halloween sharing, I'm happy to oblige:

I recommend my two most recent faves: "Dawn of the Dead" and "28 Days Later." In Dawn, you learn useful things like how to jam a flare into the top of a propane tank and shoot it to make a huge, zombie bashing explosion.

You also learn some really helpful safety tips, like "DON'T operate a chainsaw in a moving vehicle."

In 28 Days, you learn good hygiene and infectious disease prevention, like "don't let zombie blood get in your eye." (Yes, 28 Days isn't technically a "zombie" flick because they really have a disease, but it's the same basic principles and theories.)

Remember folks - if your loved one turns into a zombie, don't hesitate to blow them away! This is not the time for getting all sentimental and teary eyed.

Oh! And how could I forget "Shaun of the Dead"? Hysterically funny movie - go watch it NOW! And it's even a little educational. You do learn that in case of a zombie invasion, going to the pub probably isn't the best choice. Going to the mall is definitely a better idea. But going to the Adirondacks - now THERE's your best bet. You heard it here first, people.

Now then, this is supposed to be a knitting blog (of sorts), so who wants to see some knitting?

Too bad, you're going to see it anyway. (Unless you close the browser window and wander off to have a cup of hot chocolate.)

Aren't these cute? Mini knitted stockings. I'm going to try to make some for the folks at work. And I'll post the pattern here at some point. It's pretty simple - just make socks, only cast on a very, very small amount of stitches!

It Appears I'm Worth More Dead Than Alive

You know you've been on the internet too much when you're caught calculating the worth of your own dead body. C'mon - it's kind of cool though. Click the button to calculate yours!

$3640.00The Cadaver Calculator - Find out how much your body is worth.

My corpse ain't for sale though. I want to go to the Body Farm once I've shuffled off this mortal coil. I hope they do something cool with me, like leave me in the trunk of an old Trans Am or shove me down a well...

What, too morbid? I'm going for an R-rating, baby!

Now where's that zombie calculator? Oh, here it is!

I love zombies!
Seriously guys, do you have a Zombie Plan??

I've been watching old horror movies on AMC and TCM this weekend, can you tell?

(I'm actually serious about the Body Farm though. I can't think of a more useful way to dispose of something I'm not using anymore. But, of course, I hope I don't get to donate for at least another 50 or 70 years or more. I wonder what the cost of refrigerated shipping to Tennessee will be by then?)

More Stuff I Did With My Summer Vacation

Thanks for waiting. So of course I couldn't go a whole summer without some sock knitting!

Actually, I finished this pair quite a while ago and only just got around to taking pictures. Now I've got to give them back to Mom so she can have warm and colorful feet.

The yarn: Lorna's Laces. The color: Uh...I have no idea. It's happy, happy sunshine color!

And I worked on these all summer long during my mandatory hour-long lunches at work. ("Embossed Leaves" socks from Interweave Knits, knit on "green" Koigu - I lost the ball band long ago.)

I'm quite pleased with the results! See how the pattern is carried over into the toe? Ingenious!

Selfish or not, these babies are mine, all mine! Especially because they took for-freakin' ever to finish.

I just washed these and some other hand knits today and now the bathroom smells like a wet dog. :-)

In other news, evidently my blog is rated PG. I guess I should be trying harder. I mean, we got sex, with the horny ruffed grouse picture, and a little violence, with Zeke and the porcupine. I'm sure I've dropped the f-bomb several times. What gives?

Of Leaves And Scars

I went for a walk in the woods today and couldn't resist picking up a particularly pretty fallen leaf. Before I knew it, I was unable to stop picking up leaves and spent the rest of the walk with my head down and a growing handful of bright colors, just like when I was little kid walking home from Elementary school.

Picking up the leaves, I realized that the most beautiful ones had the most imperfections. The perfect ones were kind of boring, but the ones with all the colors and textures were fascinating to look at. These were also missing pieces, or torn, or with holes where a little bug had taken a bite. But somehow that makes them better, doesn't it?

And I realized this is true of people as well. Our scars, bruises and beat up parts (both physical and emotional) are what make us who we are. They are lingering proof of all the things we lived through, survived, accomplished, worked hard for, cried bitter tears over.

Anyone who is without these "imperfections" is either a newborn baby or someone who has never truly LIVED their lives. The most beautiful people I know are just like these leaves.

Oh My Gawd - Where Have I BEEN?

She's baaaack!

I seem to have taken a summer vacation from the blog. I don't feel guilty in the least since it's been years since I've taken a real-life vacation...

At any rate, maybe it's time for some "what I did with my summer vacation" blog entries. Shall we?

Let's see, at some point there was a fun trip to the Fonda Fair with my Dad. Located in (of course) the town of Fonda in Montgomery County, NY.

There were lots of giant chickens.

And giant snow plows.

And giant asses.

Well, technically, it's an angry mule.

And what's a fair without....

A combine demolition derby!!! Awesome! Who doesn't love to see giant, hundred thousand dollar machinery crashing into each other?

Now, I ask you -
This is what Dad wants for Christmas:

And this is what I want for Christmas:

Which one do you think costs about $38,000??? And which one do you think has beautiful blue eyes and nibbles on your fingers?

Come heeere, daahhlink. I wants to KEEEESSS you!!

MUAH!
